Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official of the United States. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as a senator in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her outspoken questions of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
